Remote interpreting (RSI)

Interpreters work from a studio or an equipped workstation and connect to your online meeting. Participants pick their language with one click. No booth, no travel, no hotel costs.

SOGEDICOM handles the whole setup: interpreters, terminology preparation, booths, headsets, technical control and on-site support. On-site, remote and hybrid events.

What RSI means

RSI stands for Remote Simultaneous Interpretation. The principle is identical to a physical booth, but the booth is virtual: the interpreter receives the audio and video feed, and their voice is broadcast on a separate channel.

The savings are substantial — no equipment transport, no interpreter travel, no overnight stays. On a multilingual event the difference often runs into thousands of euros.

The critical factor: audio quality

This is the single most decisive and most neglected point. An interpreter can compensate for a poor speaker, but not for a poor audio signal.

Our four rules for speakers: use a wired headset microphone rather than the laptop's built-in mic; connect via Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi; sit in a quiet, non-reverberant room; and wear headphones to avoid acoustic feedback. These four rules solve the vast majority of problems.

Platforms

We work on Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Google Meet, Livestorm and public streaming setups. Not all of them offer native interpreting channels — Zoom and Webex do; Google Meet does not and requires a parallel solution.

Pricing

Remote interpreting removes three whole items: equipment transport, the booth and interpreter travel. Only interpreter time and technical support remain, which usually makes it the most economical format. See our pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Do interpreters work from home?
Depending on the assignment: from an equipped studio for sensitive events, or from a certified professional workstation for routine meetings.
What happens if the internet drops?
Each interpreter has a backup connection, usually 4G, and the second interpreter can take over immediately.
Can on-site and remote participants be mixed?
Yes — that is a hybrid event, and we handle the single interpreting chain serving both audiences.
Is a specific licence needed?
On Zoom, a Business licence or above. On Teams it depends on your subscription. We check this at quotation stage and can host the session ourselves if needed.
